    Ever wonder why that bucket of popcorn at the movies costs as much as a nice lunch? You’re not alone. I’ve found myself pondering this cinematic mystery more times than I care to admit.

    Let’s break it down: The actual cost of the popcorn, oil, and bag is probably less than a dollar. So why are we shelling out $8 or more for this salty snack?

    There are a few theories:

    1. Captive audience: Once you’re in the theater, where else are you going to get your snack fix?
    2. Profit margins: Theaters make a slim profit on ticket sales, so concessions are where they rake in the dough.
    3. Psychology: That $15 combo suddenly doesn’t look so bad next to the $12 popcorn, does it?
    4. Atmosphere: Part of the moviegoing experience is the smell and taste of that theater popcorn. We’re paying for the tradition.

    Whatever the reason, it seems like sky-high popcorn prices are here to stay. So next time you’re at the movies, maybe consider smuggling in some microwave popcorn. Or just bite the bullet and enjoy your overpriced but oh-so-satisfying movie snack. No judgment here!

  • Expanding My Culinary Horizons: A Month of Mumbai Dining Adventures

    I recently travelled to Mumbai for some business and had to spend a little over four months there. I spent most of the days at the vendor’s office in the mornings, which meant I had the rest of the day to myself starting at lunch time. If you know anything about Mumbai, you’d know that spending any amount of time alone in a hotel room quickly gets boring, because there’s so much to do around the city and its streets. I had an idea, and it seemed interesting at that time, so I went ahead with it.
